SHAKESPEARE'S LOST MASTERPIECE

2019 NJACT PERRY AWARD WINNER - OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL PLAY

Revisiting A Story Very Rarely Told

Shades of Truth Theatre & New Heritage Theatre Group presents Celeste Bedford Walker's Camp Logan, the story of the Black decorated veterans from the 24th United States Infantry Regiment who were executed after clashing with the white townspeople. The men of the 24th Infantry (an all-Black regiment) had fought bravely on behalf of the United States and received a distinguished record. Many of the men were 20-year veterans, yet less than four months after returning from service, 13 soldiers from the 24th were hanged without appeal or review under sentence by the largest court-martial ever convened in the United States. What followed was one of the worst race revolts in U.S. history. I will be playing the role of Sgt McKinney, the leader of the Regiment. There are two shows booked with more to follow - Sunday, Feb. 28th at the Rochdale Community Center in Queens at 4pm (flyer enclosed), and Tuesday, March 8th in Harford, CT (more info to follow).
